Apple releases iOS 6.1 for iPhones and iPads
GADGET DESIGNER Apple has released an update for its mobile operating system iOS.
Apple's iOS 6.1 is no dramatic update. It offers users LTE support for a number of different carriers. This it says will make watching downloading things something of a blur. People in the UK who use EE might notice this. Also included are a couple of security touches and a tweak in iTunes Match.
Apple announced the release of iOS 6.1 today and burbled about how popular iOS 6 has been.
"iOS 6 is the world's most advanced mobile operating system, and with nearly 300 million iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices on iOS 6 in just five months, it may be the most popular new version of an OS in history," said Philip Schiller, Apple's SVP of Worldwide Marketing.
"iOS 6.1 brings LTE support to more markets around the world, so even more users can enjoy ultrafast Safari browsing, Facetime video calls, iCloud services, and iTunes and App Store downloads."
Apple also took time to brag about how popular some of its features are, explaining that iOS users have uploaded over nine billion photos to their Photo Streams, pinged out more that 450 billion iMessages over WiFi connections and received more than four trillion notifications.
iOS 6.1 is available as a free software update now. It is compatible with iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, third and fourth generation Ipad, iPad Mini, iPad 2 and third and fourth generation Ipod Touch. µ
