Ford’s Lincoln MKZ Might Have Set May Sales Record
Ford said that its redesigned Lincoln MKZ is expected to have set a May US sales record and that the brand will manage to match last year’s deliveries.
In May Ford sold around 3,300 Lincoln MKZ vehicles, surpassing the 3,092 units sold in the best May set in 2007. Jim Farley, executive vice president of Ford global marketing and sales and Lincoln, said that the brand’s sales will probably be unchanged compared with last year as the redesigned MKZ takes sales from the larger MKS.“We’re encouraged by our MKZ sales in May, but we have a long, long road to rebuild this brand,” said Farley.Ford relies on the MKZ to revive the Lincoln brand and become a tough rival for BMW and Mercedes-Benz. During the first quarter sales of Ford’s luxury line increased 24% in the US, the highest level of any automaker with at least 100 sales. Ford and other automaker are expected to report May sales on June 3rd. Analysts predict that Ford might have surpassed US automakers with an increase of 11% for last month.
