Whatcha Say: Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, and Jennifer Lopez Got Our Readers Talking
The week kicked off with the big premiere of Miley Cyrus‘ laidback summer jam “We Can’t Stop,” which prompted us to ask the vital question in this week’s Ibrawlator: Which of the three ex-Disney pop princesses delivered the best lead single? The Lovatics, Smilers, and Selenators came out in full force to root for their respective favorites, but only one could reign as champion. (Find out who won!)
Adding to the list of ex-Disney stars with upcoming releases, 78Violet (previously known as Aly & AJ)announced the release of their new single “Hothead,” as well as their first headlining shows in several years. Fans of country-pop had a lot to be excited about this week with new music videos from Carrie Underwoodand Taylor Swift, plus the live premiere of The Voice winner Cassadee Pope‘s debut single “Wasting All These Tears On You”.
Lastly, this year’s bubblegum pop song of the summer might have been found with the debut of Megan & Liz‘s “Release You” and we brought you the acoustic performance of the bubbly single right from our Idolator studio.
Check out some of this week’s best comments below!
:: Bill G. knew exactly what J. Lo was thinking when Mary J Blige hit the stage with her in our Caption This contest for the week: “Don’t you dare try to upstage my looks with your voice!”
:: Drew loved the rih-mixed version of Wale‘s “Bad” featuring Rihanna on Rihanna Joins Wale On “Bad” Remix: Listen: “The original version made me want to vomit. But thanks to Rih Rih’s swag and the beat update (sounds a bit like they used elements from “Lovveeeee Song”)…I can now enjoy it.”
:: Our own Sam Lansky isn’t the only one excited about Aly & AJ‘s rebirth as 78Violet: Jamison voiced his excitement on 78Violet Announce Debut Single “Hothouse,” Save Pop Music From Itself: “YES. YES. YES. YES! Pop music is non-existent without Aly & AJ. This literally made my year.”
:: While we found the Pitbull-free edit of Jennifer Lopez‘s “Live It Up” to be an improvement over the original,Jay still wasn’t impressed on Jennifer Lopez’s “Live It Up” Now Comes In A Nearly Pitbull-Free Mix: Listen: “She keeps trying and trying doesn’t she? Her music has become so redundant…and especially the ones of her collaborations with Pitbull…”On the Floor?” “Dance Again?” and now “Live It Up?” Boring.”
:: P!nk announced her new single “True Love,” but shamrock had different ideas about the pop star’s future singles on Pink Announces “True Love” With Lily Allen As New Single: “This is my least favorite off that album. “Walk of Shame” would have been a beast of a single…but maybe it will after this vanishes from the radio which, let’s face it, will be happening sooner rather than later…possibly her worst single ever…I still love her to bits but she has some bad advisers in her camp.”
:: After pictures surfaced showing Lady Gaga in the studio with hitmaker Dallas Austin, Lara L. Bailey found herself just as perplexed as we are about ARTPOP‘s status on Lady Gaga Still Hard At Work On ‘ARTPOP’ Project: “I am super confused about this whole ARTPOP album. She said months ago that Interscope heard it and they loved it (which made many people to believe it was final) and now she is back recording music again?! WTF is going on??”
:: With the release of Miley Cyrus‘ new party anthem “We Can’t Stop,” Christy found herself head over heels with the track: “This is a true comeback single. It’s very different from what’s dominating the radio right now and I think the production is exquisite and Miley’s vocals are killer. It really grows on you, so, much that I have to disagree with Jay and say that this could be the song of the year. There’s this very uplifting, anthem-like quality to it that will make for a killer live performance.”
:: And Frank Miniaci found Top 40 appeal in Lola Blanc’s “Bad Tattoo”: Idolator Premiere: “If this song doesn’t make it to the top of the iTunes chart, then I will eat my keyboard, haha. Mass appeal pure Lola magic. The first of many more to come!”
