Firefox launcher for Android to bring cool customized homescreen feature
Hopefully you haven't had your fill of adaptive Android home screens just yet, because Firefox web browser developer Mozilla has just now entered what is already a crowded ring. On Friday, Mozilla offered a sneak peek of its Firefox Launcher for Android, a front-end app that revolves around Firefox mobile.
The company has chosen to partner with EverythingMe, an Israeli-based company, that also has its own adaptive home screen app for Android. From what we can tell, the Firefox home screen app works together with the EverythingMe app search to provide contextual sensitive feedback. It is also capable of personalizing the users' web surfing and software in a single shot.
"The app integrates the contextual adaptive app search from EverythingMe with the Firefox for Android Web browser to offer users a personalized and customizable Web experience that is fun and intuitive," said Mozilla in a press release on its blog.
The launcher will basically attempt to predict which four apps users would be most likely to use, based on several criteria, including the time of day, the user's browsing history and location. Furthermore, the launcher includes smart folders that group apps together based on the user's interests. It appears that to get the most out of the Mozilla Firefox Launcher for Android, users might have to give up a little bit of their privacy, though. And, this might not bode well for some users.
Interestingly enough, this isn't the first time Mozilla has worked with EverythingMe. Both companies collaborated on the adaptive search bar found in the Firefox OS for mobile devices. A simple search phrase from this search box could retrieve a long list of related apps.
"We are happy to expand our work together with this new product to give people more smart, easy, and innovative ways to personalize their Web experience and meet their needs in any context," Mozilla said.
At the moment, potential users will have to wait a while for the Launcher to be released, since development on the app has not yet been finished. Mozilla will share more details on the launcher once it is closer to beta. At this point, the beta release and official launch date are unknown.
