Purported image of Nokia's Windows tablet surfaces online
Images of what possibly could be a Nokia branded Windows tablet have surfaced at an event in Pakistan where Nokia launched the Lumia 620, its mid-ranges Windows Phone 8 powered smartphone. The picture, which was first posted on Twitter by Farhan, shows the stage screen with the presentation slide displaying a picture of the Lumia 620, a large PC screen and a tablet-like device snuggled between the two. It appears that the tablet has rounded edges, a thin bezel and a green or yellow colour casing.
While it's hard to comment whether it might be an actual Nokia product, a prototype or simply a place holder to highlight the Microsoft Windows ecosystem, it has definitely set the rumour mills abuzz about the Finnish handset maker announcing Windows RT powered tablets, this year.
In a recent interview, Nokia CEO, Stephen Elop had said that it was studying the tablets market and was looking at it closely.
"We haven't announced tablets at this point, but it is something we are clearly looking at very closely. We are studying very closely the market right now as Microsoft has introduced the Surface tablet, so we are trying to learn from that and understand what the right way to participate would be and at what point in time," he said.
This was not the first time Elop talked about a tablet, discussing the possibility of Nokia entering the exploding target market in an interview way back in September last year.
"We have not announced any tablets, but I think the opportunity is very clear. People today increasingly are looking for a common digital experience between their smartphone and tablet, with a PC, and with their gaming platform, and so there's clearly an opportunity across there. This is something that we're looking at very closely," Elop had said.
